THE BLACK COUNTRY

You are staying in the Black Country and we are very proud to live here.

Do not say Birmingham is in the Black Country as you may find yourself in trouble with the locals.

The name dates from 1840s. The area is 14 miles long and had a 30 foot thick coal seam close to the surface.

It covers most of Dudley and Sandwell and parts of Walsall and Tipton.

Not Wolverhampton, Stourbridge and Smethwick.
